My mum and dad; my dad and I loved history (very much), dad's keen interest being WW1 and WW11. We went with them to Arras, where his dad fought in the trenches on the Somme. We went to Normandy and looked out at the floating bridge, 'Mulberry Harbour' and stood on the cliffs at what was termed 'Omaha Beach' where so many Americans lost their lives during the 2nd world war. We went in the casino at Monte Carlo and were in Berlin the very day that the wall came down. Books being expensive when I as a child my dad brought a book home that he'd found on a building site for me saying "here, you like history". It was a small pocket book of which I still have. I used to listen to my mum's starched, swishing petticoats when I was very small and wish that I could wear them. Oh, how the fashion had changed by the 1970's in my early teens, nothing like as nice. I collected all sorts of old and vintage objects over the years and mum mum was always interested; we would talk about times past and refer to them. My great grandmother was alive until I was 10, this created many memories of very different times for my mum and myself. Life on our planet has changed so much in a short spell of time. Mum and I found it daunting; dad was content with his tea, getting in the garden and a couple of Jameson's. So very much more that I could say. Bless you my darlings. Dink x
