Hello mum and dad, this candle will stand guard over my memories until we meet again.
It is not the first we have lit in both your memories over the past weeks. Doing so, and trying to connect, has made us feel so much closer to you both and we hope you felt it as well.
It has been traumatic these past weeks to know that we will not be creating any more earthly memories together. I guess though, it is so hard because we were fortunate enough, as a family, to create so many along the way and it was a pleasure trying to create as many as possible whilst we were all together.
Even over this past year, with all the madness going on, we tried our hardest to ensure we were close and have some fun. Indeed, we must have had some success because the neighbours even accused us of having wild parties until the early hours one evening, when you both left at 2am, with walking sticks in hand :-)
We had some fantastic times along the way, and the best were perhaps the most simple, sitting outside in the sun at Warners for example, with a drink in one hand listening to both your stories from when you were growing up. I couldn't help but think how you both lived full lives, especially when you were young and growing up.
I have been looking at some of your photos lately, and it was wonderful to see some of you both, young, fresh faced and clearly excited about the life you were going to embark upon together and with your first born. It was lovely to see and to think, all the lovely children and grandchildren you did go on to enjoy in your full lives.
And now, you have both returned to spirit and will be with your children you could not enjoy in the physical, and be with your mum's and dad's and family. We will all be with you soon enough.
Most of all, thank you for Amanda, your precious child and the love of my life, and for allowing me into your family and extending your family with my lovely boys. We had great times, and even now, almost anything I look at, I see you both as you were both so integral in our lives and we all helped each other out such that nearly everything involved you both.
In a couple of weeks we will all be celebrating your earthly lives, and the positive impact you had on so many, especially mine. Indeed, over these past few weeks, we have learned just how important, respected and loved you both were by friends in the local community, which was not fully appreciated. You were both loved by many and will be greatly missed.
I take some solace however, to know we will all be back together soon.
I love you both and your candle burns in my heart...until we meet again.
